Sanctions that are imposed by the court when a case of non-compliance is proved against a defendant. The nature of the penalty depends on the nature of the non-compliance and on the legislation. It can take the form of, for example, monetary penalty (fine), clean-up of pollution caused, loss of permit/license and closure of the installation.
