The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), signed in 1973. The convention aims to prevent or limit commercial trade in certain species, which are in danger of extinction or might become if their trade was allowed to continue unchecked. The convention covers not only living plants and animals, but also their derivatives.
